Aftercare

Brow Aftercare:

  • Avoid contact with water on the brows unless you are cleaning them. You do not want to submerge your face in water. Avoid long, hot showers and sauna’s/steam rooms, this can cause improper healing and poor retention.

  • Do not rub, pick or scratch at your brows after the procedure and while they are healing (approx. 10 days-2 weeks). You must allow the brows to peel and flake off naturally (picking will cause pigment loss).

  • Avoid using makeup, skin care or any other topical products over top of the brow area for 10 days, only use the aftercare provided as needed.

  • Wait at least 10 days before swimming in pools or recreational bodies of water (or until your brows have completely peeled).

  • Avoid excessive workouts, Jacuzzi’s, hot tubs or any activities that could cause you to become sweaty, for at least 7 days.

  • Wait at least 2 weeks to tan (indoor and outdoor).

  • Wait at least 2 weeks to wax your brows after your appointment.

  • Avoid activities where high levels of debris may be present (i.e., gardening).

  • Individuals with normal to dry skin should apply the aftercare balm only when the brows feel very “tight” or dry. Combination to oily skin types, may not require the aftercare balm at all. Use your best judgement on this, but do not use the balm unless you feel you need to.

  • When applying aftercare, dispense a rice grain amount onto a clean fingertip, and apply this equally to both brows. This may not feel like enough, but it is plenty, the brows only need to be lightly moisturized- NOT covered or soaked. If the brows appear shiny or wet after you have applied the aftercare, you have likely applied too much. Wipe some off gently with a Q-tip or tissue. Over-saturating the brows with aftercare can cause pigment loss and infection.

Day of Appointment:

For the rest of the day, you will want to keep an eye on your brows, and gently blot them with a tissue or paper towel to remove any lymph fluid that may have accumulated on top of the brows. You will know there is lymph fluid present when the brows appear shiny and wet. It is crucial to remove this fluid and wash your brows according to instruction, as failure to do so will cause this fluid to harden on the surface of the brows- and that is how large scabs can form. Some people experience almost no fluid and some experience quite a lot, so use your best judgment on how often you need to blot the brows.

Before bed you will dampen the brows and lightly wash them in small circular motions, using clean fingertips and a non-fragranced, gentle soap such as Cetaphil or Dove (if you do not have either of these just be sure to use anything that is mild and not overly fragranced, Dial antibacterial soap works as well). Rinse the brows and pat dry with a paper towel. Do not apply any aftercare balm for the first 24 hours. The brows may still be releasing lymph fluid during this time, and we do NOT want to trap the fluid underneath an occlusive layer (this again can cause scabs).

Day 2-14 (Or until all the flakes have fallen off):

Continue washing the brows morning and night, and apply aftercare only as needed. Be sure to NEVER apply aftercare overtop of damp brows. This can trap moisture and cause bacteria to grow and create an infection. When washing the brows, pat them dry and wait a minimum of 20 minutes before applying the aftercare balm. This allows for any moisture to evaporate prior to the application.

Helpful Tips:

  • Bathing instead of showering when possible is recommended as it is much easier to keep water off your face while the brows are healing.

  • If you own a satin or silk pillowcase, use that while your brows are healing. These are much gentler on your brows if your face rubs against the pillowcase as you sleep. If not, any clean pillowcase is perfectly fine.

  • To avoid the brows fading prematurely, avoid using skincare products with AHA’s (alpha-hydroxy acids) like glycolic acid, lactic acid, mandelic acid etc., or Retinol products over top of the brow area.

  • Apply SPF over the brows before extended sun exposure i.e., long beach days etc., too much sun exposure without an SPF will fade your brows quicker.

  • If you have oily/combination skin or simply do not need to use the aftercare balm provided for your brows, feel free to use the balm on any dry skin patches, rough or cracked hands, dry chapped lips etc.

Eyeliner Aftercare

Some swelling/redness/tenderness is normal. If this occurs, it should subside within a few hours or up to a day for very sensitive eyes. If you do find that there is some swelling and you'd like to ice the eye area to reduce it, the best way to that is the following:

Take 2 Ziplock bags, doubled up, and fill it about halfway with cold water and 1-2 ice cubes. This will conform to your eye area once applied (this is best done laying down) and you can ice for about 20 minutes every couple hours.

What to avoid:

No eye makeup for 7 days

No false lashes or lash extensions for 2 weeks

No rubbing, scratching or picking at the eye area for 7 days

We also recommend once your liner is healed and you're able to wear eye makeup again, that you use a fresh tube of mascara to avoid any bacteria trapped in the old tube, getting into your lash line.

Day 1-7:

Clean your eyeliner each day with a cotton swab wet with water. You can use a separate cotton swab or the opposite, dry side of the one you already used, to apply a very SMALL amount of the aftercare balm provided. Apply the balm gently, just above the lash line. Using too much will not help the healing and will likely seep into your eyes. Apply the balm 1-2 times a day as needed and be sure to clean the eye area with a wet cotton swab before applying new balm.

Please note you will not use nearly the entire packet of aftercare. There will be much leftover and you can discard the rest after 7 days time or use as a healing balm for any dry, cracked skin.
